Course project
You will work in a team on a semester-long software project. Default: pick your own (web, desktop, or mobile). It needs real users (accounts, something people can actually use) and enough complexity for a semester; a thin utility page does not count. If you would rather not invent a product, you can join a staff project and work with the instructor: Chiral Network — a blockchain (resource sharing, Internet Computer–style hosted functions) or a Supabase-like cloud database. Both are large systems projects. See the syllabus (PDF).
AI is encouraged; use it as much as you can.
Grading
- Course project (80%), delivered in six milestones:
- Milestone 1: Proposal and Requirements — 10%
- Milestone 2: Design and Setup — 10%
- Milestone 3: MVP — 10%
- Milestone 4: Feature-Complete — 10%
- Milestone 5: Testing and Integration — 10%
- Milestone 6: Final Product — 30%
- Class presentation (20%), one 30-minute talk per group. Either split one story or each tell a smaller one.
Milestone grades consider the quality of what the team delivers and each student’s contribution. Teams are graded on the day they present.
The class calendar is on the schedule page.
