Academic Integrity, Collaboration, and Grading

We are serious about enforcing the class’s collaboration and integrity policy. Specifically,

  • The work that you turn in must be yours. For the project, that means your team’s work. Do not copy another team. For exams, you must work alone.

  • You must acknowledge your influences. Cite papers, code, and people who gave you ideas. Material from lecture does not require citation.

  • Do not post exam questions on the Web or elsewhere. Ask the course staff via email or Piazza if you have questions.

  • Exams are individual work. No collaboration and no AI tools during exams. AI is allowed on the project; you still have to understand what you submit.

  • You must take reasonable steps to protect your work. Do not publish exam solutions or another team’s project.

  • If there are inexplicable discrepancies between exam performance and project contribution, we will overweight the exam, and possibly interview you.

  • We will enforce the policy strictly. Penalties include failing the course (and you won’t be permitted to take the same class in the future), referral to the university’s disciplinary body, and possible expulsion.

The project is team work; work with your group. Do not copy another team’s project. For exams, you must work alone: do not discuss questions or answers with anyone until grades are released.

You are welcome to use existing public libraries in the project. You may also look at public open-source code such as Github. Cite any source that gave you code or an idea. AI is allowed on the project (not on exams); you are still responsible for understanding what you submit.

The above guidelines are necessarily generalizations and cannot account for all circumstances. Intellectual dishonesty can end your career, and it is your responsibility to stay on the right side of the line. If you are not sure about something, ask.

Missed exams

There are three exams; we keep the two best scores. You may skip one exam. No makeup tests will be offered. A missed exam is a zero, which the drop covers if you take the other two.
